Join us for a memorable day of ceramic alchemy as ArtAtelier dives into the exciting world of Raku firing! Raku is a fast, fiery, and unpredictable ceramic process that embraces smoke, flame, and spontaneity. Red-hot ceramic pieces are pulled from our outdoor kiln and placed into combustible materials, creating unique surface effects like crackles, metallic sheens, and smoky patterns. No prior experience necessary! We will cover a variety of Raku specific processes including reduction glazes, horse hair, and naked raku.
Day of the Event :
-Participants should bring a maximum of three 5” x 5” pre-made, bisque-fired objects (glazes are provided by ArtAtelier). If you would like to make your objects at ArtAtelier prior to the event please don’t hesitate to contact us!
-You also have the option to choose from a variety of pre-made ceramic forms (both hand-built and wheel thrown) from ArtAtelier for $ 25 a piece
-Please wear closed-toed shoes and 100% cotton/ natural fiber clothing - no synthetic fabers.
-You can be as involved in the firing process as you would like – or you can prepare your ceramic objects and let us do the flame work for you while you sit back and enjoy the show!
-Food and beverages will be provided
- At the end of the evening, you will have learned the history and process of Japanese Raku in our red-hot outdoor kiln situated on the beautiful natural campus of ArtAtelier. You will leave with your own uniquely-patterned iridescent, earthy, smokey, beautiful ceramic work and an unforgettable experience!
